2009: Week 14 & 15

I don't claim to understand the irony of having nothing but free time but also having nothing to blog about. For the last 10 plus days I have been unemployed and been unable to find blogworthy activities in which to fill the void of a neglected website. And it's not like I've just been a lay-about. I've had lunch at Jimmy's twice! I can only guess this is the calm before the blog storm. Once I make it to Europe at the end of May, you, gentle reader, will be unable to keep up.

Top 3:

3) Lunch at Jimmy's
2) Lunch at Jimmy's
1) Dinner at Piranha

Vital Stats:
  • 2 - Lunches at Jimmy's
  • 1 - number of blog entries since my unemployment.
  • 0 - number of interesting blog entries since my unemployment.
  • 7 - number of people finding my site using the search word "FUPA". Take that GILF hunters.

2009:Week 13

The good news is today, Monday, was the last Monday in a while that I have to get up early and drag my sorry ass to a place of employment. The bad news is also the same thing.

Life is such a dichotomy.

Week Highlights:

3) Having two soccer players check on me after my bad fall.
2) Making preliminary plans for Walkabout 2009 -- Euro Edition.
1) Doing nothing on Saturday but catch up on some Netflix movies. (Reviews coming soon. Spoiler Alert -- they were both As)

Key Stats:
  • 5 -- days left at Beal
  • 10 -- dollars saved with a coupon at Central Market. It was a slow week and, hey, cash flow is about to fall to 0 soon.
  • 0 -- minutes of NCAA Basketball I watched this week. Seriously, how can you people stand it? I would watch Special Olympics Curling before college basketball.
  • 8 -- number of Advil I took at a time at the peak of my back pain.

2009: Week 11

This week can be summed up in two words:

THE END.

Not to worry, I'm not ending the blog. If anything, the blog will probably be seeing a lot more action.

But two of "my stories" had there series finales (THE END, if you will) this week -- Battlestar Galactica and The Flight of the Concords. Also, I was told that my stint with Beal Bank will be ending.

But when a door closes, others open. And if doors don't open for me. Well, at least beers will open.

I would also like to welcome the Facebookers that can now read my poorly worded missives since I've synched (sunched?) my blog up with Facebook. You can read all my ramblings here.

Highlights:
3) Discovering the soul-crushing dankness of Ships Lounge.
2) My first 30 mile ride up the White Rock Creek path of the Spring.
1) Drinking scotch and smoking cigars at BC & Barb's.

Vital Stats:

  • 2 -- weeks I have left with Beal
  • 20 -- beers tasted at Sigel's free beer tasting
  • 11 -- "gilf hunter" searchers that found my blog. Down from 14 last week. I guess even gilf hunting has been effected by the economy.

2009: Week 10

Oh sweet Daylight Savings Time, welcome back to my life. With your arrival, my biking season has officially begun.

As a new feature this week I will enumerate the my best 3 things to happen this week. And it may be this week only depending on if there are even 3 top moments in a given week.

3) Learning that Lauren spent some of her time Googling "Gilf Hunter"
2) Meeting The Old 97s' Rhett Miller and having him compliment me on my glasses.
1) Hearing Flight of the Conchord's Hiphopopatamus being played at The Old Monk.

Vital Stats:
  • 14 -- people who accessed my blog using the search term "gilf hunter"
  • 2 -- pictures of his stream Matt sent me from the Old Monk bathroom.
  • 1 -- thongs seen on St. Patrick's Day (observed) worn over the chick's tights.
  • 20 -- dollars lost playing poker drunk on St. Pat's Day (observed)

2009: Week 9

After such a busy week last week, not much happened this week. Pretty much all of this week's hijinks occurred on Saturday at the Winter League Tourney.

Vital Stats:
  • 1 -- hours of sleep lost to Daylight Savings Time. But it's worth it to have daylight after work.
  • 10 -- out of 10, weeks I showed up to WL after saying I would only show up. I guess I had a pretty, pretty, pretty good time.
  • 479 -pictures taken at the Winter League Tournament.
  • 1025 - dollars raised by Vanessa at her Hat Tournament to support her Summit for Someone climb this summer. If you would like to make a donation, you can here.

    2009: Week 8

Sorry for this being double late. But with the questions of the future of the blog, I neglected to write it up.

    Busy. Busy week.

    Monday – Stars Game.

Tuesday – Mardi Gras at Duke’s. This may have been a mistake on many levels. But let me say one thing about the beating that is Mardi Gras at Duke’s. As far as I can remember, I don’t remember the Cajuns playing a lot of hip-hop and craphole pop music. If I can switch on Old Man Mode, why do we have to listen to the same godsdamn crap people are running away from in droves on the radio? Are we just going to let the Idiocracy overrun us and accept the putdridness of modern pop music? What? We couldn’t throw in some Zydeco or New Orleans Jazz every now and then? And another thing. Mardi Gras officially ends at straight up Midnight – when Lent begins. All you people still drinking and carousing after midnight are all going straight to hell.

Wednesday – WedNiteUlt followed by the regular trip to the Barley House with Special Guest Stars Trent’s Krewe of Drinks. (Quasi Mardi Gras call back). Happy birthday Turbo.

Thursday – Drinks and quesadillas at the HoHo Cantina

Friday – could have gone to the Barcadia, but needed a night off.

Saturday – a very cold Winter League and the accompanying funanigans.

    Sunday – Recovery

    Vital Stats
    • 0 – games won this week. Very disappointing since we had finally crawled back to .500 – very Stars-like.
    • 1 – upwind points given up in our second game. Unfortunately we gave it up during hard cap.
    • 2 Million – number of downloads of the Adam Carolla Podcast making it the #1 podcast on iTunes. So suck it This American Life.
    • 8.5 – Pounds Zoë weighed at the Vet.

    2009: Week 7

Man this was a busy week.

Birthday diner with moms at The Old Warsaw. Vanessa instigated funanigans at Jimmy's, Dodie's and Breadwinners.

Too bad you guys couldn't join us in the fun.

    Key Stats:
    • 389 - the bin number of one of my favorite wines -- Penfold's Bin 389 -- consumed at The Old Warsaw.
    • 20 - dollars I lost at my own Godsdamned poker game.
    • 6 - Episodes of Flight of the Concords I watched over the weekend
    • 0 - minutes of the Academy Awards I watched on Sunday.

    2009: Week 6

    Wow!
These weeks come and go pretty fast. I'm starting to reconsider if this Wally's Week in Review was a good idea.

There were some definite highlights this week. Can anyone say sitting behind Mark Cuban at a Maverick's game?

    Oh too bad!

And I have to give BC and Barb some serious love for hosting a great Winter League After Party.

    Key Stats:
    • 3 - number of naps taken on Sunday
    • 2 - hot dogs eaten at Winter League. Kind of dispointing, really. I should do better
    • 3 - number of different beers I had on my first visit to Zymology. Review to come after a few more visits.
    • 3 - as in "3 seconds" which is what Mark Cuban shouted to the refs every time a Clipper sniffed the paint.

    2009: Week 5

This was the week when the dreaded age field went up by one and I am forced to contemplate being even closer to my death than I am to my birth. Or I can just drink and drink and drink and not contemplate anything but why I suck so bad at Beer Pong these days.

I also got revisit an old friend -- The Libertine. A fresh review of which is coming.

    Key Stats:

    • 4 – games in a row my Winter League team has won
    • 5 – pounds little Zoë weighed on her first trip to the Vet.
    • 8 – the number of women who held Zoë at the Barley House after Wednesday night pickup
    • 0 – the number of women I held at the Barley House after Wednesday night pickup. It’s official, I have no game.

    2009: Week 4

Ooops. I completely forgot about this this week. Much apologizings.

But to be honest, how could I be expected to remember to blog about a week that included the introduction of the intensely adorable Zoë?

I also think that that damn Facebook is diverting some of my creative juices (ewww gross) from this blog.

    Key Stats
    • 0 - number of Beer Pong games played at Frat Party
    • 2 - games my Winter League team won this week
    • 4 - number of beers drunk in the first 3 1/2 hours I was at Frat Party.
    • 2 - number of beers drunk in the last 1/2 hour of Frat Party.

    2009: Week 3

The roller-coaster weather continues. Can we please get to the WARMING part of global warming -- at least on Winter League Saturdays.

The week was highlighted by a mini grub/pub crawl of sorts. The three stops being:
    1. Cowboy Chow - really good, need to go back to fully review it.
    2. Angry Dog - good chilidog and above average beer selection. Need to go bac to fully review it.
    3. Londoner on Thomas - what good beer they sell, they didn't have AND it was full of uptown Douche. Probably don't need to go back.

    Key Stats:
    • 100 - percentage of Winter League games played despite saying I would only be 50% AND telling my captain I wouldn't come out this week due to sandy mangina.
    • 25 - the number of bottles of Wally's Belgian Tripple bottled.
    • 2 - weeks in a row going to Stan's on a Thursday.
    • 0 - things I could think of to fill out this list.

    2009: Week 2

This was the week the Jester left his 20s behind him. Unfortunately I have nothing more profound to say than it simultaneously gets better and worse from here.

This was also the week I discovered Fage Greek yogurt. But there will be more on that later.

And this was the week that I got a new computer system at work and convinced my bosses to buy some programming tools that I told them we needed when I first started but went with a different set of tools. So I guess I have to stick around a bit longer.

    Key Stats
    • 4 -- the number of cores in my new computer at work.
    • 24 -- the number of inches diagonally of my two new monitors at work.
    • 6 -- the number of games of Headsup Poker I won at Stan's on the Jester's Birthday.
    • 5 -- star I gave the mid-season premiere of Battlestar Galactica (out of 5).

    2009: Week 1

There's not a whole lot to report about this week. I've been largely occupied by recovering from the lingering effects of last week's cold and trying to find a new blog template that fills the requirements of being 1) flexible 2) interesting to me 3) readable by my followers (oooh that sounds like I'm a cult leader) who don't seem to be as blessed with a 17" laptop like myself.

Oh, and I've been trying to construct and long, rambling sentence that can't be diagram by the average middle schooler (see above).
    Key Stats:
    • 1 -- Weeks in the last month I've worked 40 hours
    • 1 -- Points scored this week at Winter League
    • 2 -- Burgers eaten this week at Winter League
    • 5 -- Days until the return of Battlestar Galactica

    2009: Week 0

2009 started off just about as poorly as a year can start off -- in bed, asleep with a cold. Although it was refreshing to wake up on Jan 1 a) not hungover and b) not with a wet pair of pants around my ankles. Ah sweet shot luge, you are a harsh mistress.

But as poorly as the week started, it ended on a considerable high of fine dining with visits to two of my all-time favorite restaurants Piranha (the new one in South Arlington to be properly reviewed soon) and Morton's (not to be reviewed soon, cause you don't need to review awesome).

    Key Stats
    • 2 - Garbage bags filled with old clothes to be taken to Goodwill
    • 3 - Times I finished in the money in a single table Sit-And-Go poker tournament.
    • 69 - Miles biked thanks to the unseasonably warm weather
    • Dozens and Dozens - Times I wondered why the hell we didn't have any Winter League games scheduled this weekend especially since it was so unseasonably warm.

    Vanabout 2019 Day 28: Aberdeen

Still South Dakota. Found a cute campground that most of the year is a hopping family holiday retreat. But it’s cold and snowy and latish Oc...
