Music Monday: Midlake-Roscoe (Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve Remix)

Recently, after enjoying yet another Thursday night quiz victory, I was sitting on the patio of The Old Monk and I heard a song that sounded familiar.  I finally figured it out, that it was Midlake’s Roscoe.  But it sounded different.  Did they have an extended dance mix?  The next day I scoured the internet* and found this version of Roscoe.  I’ve been listening the shit out of it ever since.

* A made one google search.

Music Monday: The Old 97s–Let’s Get Drunk & Get It On

There is a small chance I appear in this video since some of it was at a concert I attended.

Music Monday: Neko Case’s This Tornado Loves You

It’s the return of Music Monday.  And since I was stranded in Vermont last week due to Hurricane Sandy, I could think of no better way to bring back Music Monday then to feature my favorite Vermont resident I’m not related to and her song This Hurricane Tornado Loves You.

Music Monday: I’m From Barcelona–We’re From Barcelona

Has this been a months’ long long-con leading up to this payoff?  Perhaps, but if not…

Music Monday: Old 97s–Oppenheimer

Since they didn’t play it at House of Blues Friday, I’ll go ahead and play it here.  Sorry about the poor quality.  It was the best I could find.

Music Monday: They Might Be Giants’ “They’ll Need A Crane”

This is my favorite song from one of my all-time favorite acts – nerdy funsters  They Might Be Giants.  Please pay close attention to how quintessentially 80s this video is.  From the Retard-Dance-Party gyrations of the singer and his hair, the inexplicable cuts to old guys playing guitar, you can almost hear Martha Quinn intro-ing this song.

Music Monday: Van Morrison, Astral Weeks

One of the coolest experiences of my life was being at this very concert in which Van Morrison played the entire Astral Weeks album in entire entirety in the Hollywood Bowl.

If you’re interested, I’m the dude standing in the back of the aisle on the right side.

Music Monday: Sugar

The subconscious inspiration for Music Monday is the weekly segment on The Adam Carolla Podcast in which former Rolling Stone writer David Wild and Adam trade great songs that never got any radio airplay.  This past week, David’s offering was Sugar’s “If I Can’t Change Your Mind”.  Upon hearing that, I thought, “Hey!  I love that song.”

In fact I love all things Bob Mould* – from Husker Du to Sugar to his solo work.
