Colonial NIT 2014

BlogGallery

I’m not going to call it the Crown Plaza Colonial NIT.  That’s so much bullshit. It will always be just the Colonial NIT to me.

This was a very fun day.  I trained it from Dallas to FTW via the TRE and then used Ft Worth’s B to do some biking around town.

I’ve Had Better May 22nds

Please don’t read into that headline that today is going badly.  It is not.  I’m working from home watching the Rangers put up 5 runs early for Yu.  However, thanks to The Facebooks, I have to admit, today is not the best May 22 ever.

I’m not that savvy with the technologies, so don’t berate me with comments such as “Uh, I’ve known about that for literally a billion years asshole.  Write about things you know something about like crapping your pants.”

Now I will get around to blogging about crapping my pants some day, but today I wanted review a new (to me) Facebook app – On This Day.

With this new “App” you can review your timeline On This Day for any given year.  So, for instance on this day in 2009:

2009

Oh, look, I was in France.  That’s a pretty good May 22.

And just last year:

2013

I was putting pig in my face in the Altstadt.

Today may be better than May 22, 2011 for me and all my friends as nothing shows up in my newsfeed for that day.  So I guess I can’t feel too bad about today.

Dallas Comic Con 2014

DallasComicCon
Whelp, I finally made it to a Comic Con.  And after seeing all of the crap available for purchase and the D through Q list genre celebrities presented for autographs, it seems doubtful I would ever return.

Arsenal: 2014 FA Cup Champions

I start watching Arsenal regularly and they go off and win the FA Cup.

I wish I could have seen Ramsey’s match winning goal, but I forgot to pad for extra time.

Downtown Dallas

Dallas

I happened to bring my camera to work the other day and managed to take a few pix around downtown.

The Miracle Diet That Will Make Your Bunny Sexier

As an attempt to get more people to read my narcissistic ramblings, I am engaging in two time honored ways to get more eyes on the blog:  click-bait headlines and adorable animals doing funny things.  Please enjoy Bunneh Eating Raspberries.

Dallas City Council Has Been Replaced by Pod People

IMG_0613

And the good news is, they’re my kind of pod people.  Never in my decade of living in Dallas can I recall the council doing one thing right.  And now, twice in one day I read stories on the Unfair Park about the council doing, or about to do something incredibly right for a change.

Unpossible!

Must be Pod People.

First there was this:

Please recall my rant from 2008 about bike helmets.  A silly ordinance used to shake down taxpayers by issuing chick-shit tickets.

And then

What a glorious day to be a Dallas resident where I can finally bike to Love Field without a helmet and fly on a cheap airline and not have to be subjected to schtickful flight attendants.

And in, hopefully, 11 days, Pecan Lodge will reopen in Deep Ellum.

Now I just need to get that craft beer / pie house opened up across from work on Elm, and Dallas would be perfect.

Hey, Look, It’s Dallas!

deepellum

I was reading this article on The Atlantic website when I noticed the familiar statue.

“That looks familiar”, I thought.  “Isn’t there a statue like that in Deep Ellum.  Holy shit, that is Deep Ellum.”

Fun with Youtubes: Mills Bakery

Sticking with the Fun with Youtubes theme of shit I loved as a kid, brings us this week to:

Mills Bakery aka the place that provided 50% of my calories anytime I went to New Jersey as a kid. I haven’t been in seven years, but it looks like it’s under new management.  Hopefully the cranky old biddy yelling “WHAT ELSE” at you as she boxes your pastries is still employed.

If you click on the link you get the video I really wanted to embed.  But alas that one is not on Youtube.

Andrew Zimmern, Paleo?

This unexpected tweet came across my newsfeed the other day:

WTF.  There are no aardvark spleens in that recipe.

So I did some digging and found this episode of his podcast (JFC everyone has a podcast) in which his co-host featuring Whole9 guru Melissa Hartwig. It turns out his co-host was about to start the Whole 30 program.

It is hinted in the podcast that he has dabbled with paleo, but probably not a strict adherent.  Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Still, if he is paleo, I can envision at least one difference in our diet plans.

Fun with Youtubes: DART–The Early Year

Anyone who knows me knows that my three absolute favorite things in the world are history, public transportation and the smell of hobo urine.  And what better way to satisfy all three than to watch a WFAA special on the opening of DART rail from way way back in 1996.

  • It’s great seeing the late, great Chip Moody.  I have memories of seeing him on Chanel 5 Texas News as a small child.*
  • “Tourists will flock to The West End..”   Hahaha.  You can’t make shit like that up.
  • No mention that the West End Station is the #1 place to purchase WMDs and Yellow Caps** in the CBD.

* I was a small child, not Chip.
** Obligatory hipster reference to The Wire.

Vanabout 2019 Day 28: Aberdeen

Still South Dakota. Found a cute campground that most of the year is a hopping family holiday retreat. But it’s cold and snowy and latish Oc...
