Not So Recently in My Face: Hen of the Wood

Hen of the Wood is extremely dark inside.  So these are not the best pictures ever taken of food.

Recently in My Face: Chow

untitled-21
I previously chronicled this was the best breakfast I’ve ever had.  And because I knew it would take two days to drive from Seattle to Bear Valley, a detour Chow one more time was in order.
Pictured above:  The Sampson - Poached Eggs, Crab Cakes, Sauce Choron
Yeah, that’s right, another crab cake.

Oysters, meaty creamy Sea Cows on the left, briney funky Blue Pools on the right.

Crab cakes.  I can never get enough.

I almost didn’t make it there, but I’m so glad I did.  The Brooklyn is great, but for just oysters, and variety of oysters, this is the place.

Recently in my Face: Skillet Diner

Walkabout 2015-64

First you make a decadent grilled cheese made from brie and cheddar on brioche grilled with the perfect amount butter.  Then, because this is how I roll, I knock it up a notch by adding bacon jam.  But that’s not even close to good enough.  I then added a fried chicken thigh.  It was ridiculous.

Recently in My Face: Uchi Dallas

Dallas continues to turn itself into the city I want to live in.  Not satisfied by opening a Top Pot (a must put in my face event for every trip to Seattle) three blocks from house, Dallas has now brought me my favorite Texas restaurant – Uchi.

Previous fawnings can be found here, here, and here.

And no, it did not disappoint.

On to the porn:

Recently in My Face: Lusher’s Red Hots

20150306_133220

At last, a hot dog place within walking distance of work.  And not only is it close, but it’s also very good.  Downtown just keeps getting better.

Those onion rings were ethereal albeit a bit greasy.  The Meat Fight pictured in the back was very good.

Recently in My Face: Momo Family Tibetan Food Truck

One of the advantages of working downtown is the availability of a variety of food trucks.  Well, at least that’s the theory.  Since working downtown, I’ve only encounter the same food trucks you see at Klyde Warren Park or every other beer festival.

Until today.

I was delighted to look down from my window in Thanksgiving Tower and see a food truck and an ethnic food I’ve never ever encountered:  Momo Family Tibetan Food Truck.  That’s right, for the first time in my life, I ate Tibetan food.  Who knew that was even a thing??

Seriously, check this out if you see this truck.  It’s a dude and his Tibetan mom making delicious dumplings.  I had a combo of beef and chicken curry.  And be sure to double down on momma’s hot sauce.

Be sure to follow them @momotruck.

Recently in My Face: Chino Chinatown

JT was in town and he dragged me not once but twice to his friend Uno’s restaurant, Chino Chinatown.  It’s a good thing it’s one of the best restaurants in Dallas or I’d be pissed.

Regrettably not pictured, the duck fried rice with duck breast and a duck egg.  It’s a chock full of duck.

And while I a had my camera over there, I took another nice picture of the bridge.

Recently in My Face: The Whole Fried Branzino at Mot Hai Ba

2014-06-27 21.24.32

Like any food nerd I take pictures of stunning dishes whenever I can.  But sometimes I forget to post them.  This was eaten about a month ago.  Mot Hai Ba is quickly shooting up to near the top of my favorite Dallas restaurants.

Eating Prague: U FlekÅÆ

Oh, U FlekÅÆ, what’s happened to you?  Or maybe it’s what’s happened to me.  Four years after my first visit you seem so touristy and brightly lit.  And please believe us when we say we don’t want any shots.  And what are those other shots?  In the good old days four years ago there was just one shot, Becherovka.  Oh well,  the pork knuckle was still great and the beer flowing.

Walkabout 2013 Day 12: Finally a Sunny Day in Düsseldorf

It’s mostly been rainy, cloudy and cold here in the ‘dorf.  But finally the sun broke through and I got to walk around the city a bit.  And could there be a better way to end a day than with copious amounts of altbier, schweine haxe, some blutwurst and then more altbier?

Vanabout 2019 Day 28: Aberdeen

Still South Dakota. Found a cute campground that most of the year is a hopping family holiday retreat. But it’s cold and snowy and latish Oc...
