Yet another case of bloggers block has afflicted me for much of the past few months.  Nothing particularly interesting has been going on in my life.  And the one thing that does interest me, my new paleo lifestyle, I think would bore whatever readers I may have left.  Plus, I don’t want this to become yet another paleo blog preaching to the choir about eliminating grains, seed oils and fructose from your diet.  Seriously, once you’ve said that, there’s nothing much to blog about.

And then there’s this quote:

The thing to do when you burn out blogging what you usually blog about is not to quit, but blog about what's making you happy at the moment. Been doing it since 2003.

You'll loose some readers.

...And? Fuck 'em.

So maybe I will blog about paleo when something of interest pops up. But in the mean-time, I will probably be sharing my adventure into the exciting world of  charcutarie.

I’m sorry this wasn’t very funny.  In fact there was no humor in it at all.  But sometimes the blog is more cathartic than comedic.

Well, here it is.  My 1000th post.

I have to admit that I’ve slowed down on posting recently because I was intimidated by getting to this post.  This one is an important one.  So I better not fuck it up.

Unfortunately, it appears that I really haven’t given this post much thought.
So let me thank my very few readers.

JT and Kateri for their sometimes overly insistent encouragement.

The Jester for well I don’t know.  Hopefully I can think of something.

Magpie for her frequent blog comments on my blog and not on Facebook.

I would also like to thank the late, great Nortel for laying me off and getting this blog started.  Without their paying me not to work for six months, none of this would have been possible.

Welcome Granny Lovers

After lamenting that I didn't have any readers and expressing a need for love comments, Jason suggested I add Google's Analytics to track the visitors to my site. I had been resistant to adding a tracker since I had one on my old site, Bigedsfupa.com, and found the statistics to be fairly boring and meaningless. All the juicy information was for pay only. Fuck that.

But Google Analytics, like much that Google touches IS AWESOME.

My visitors can be broken down into all kinds of groups – browser, operating system, country. I knew I had a German reader, but hello Canada and The Netherlands.

But the most interesting thing that the report tells me is who comes to this site via a search engine and what their search was. And now I know, after only 3 days mind you, that 33% of my unique visitors come here having used the search term "GILF Hunter". Just over a year ago I wrote this posting about a certain future Republican Vice Presidential candidate with the title GILF Hunter. Only in my case the G stood for Governor.

So to all you Granny lovers who have wondered onto my site I say "Welcome". You have prompted me to change my site motto to :

Come for the Grannies, stay for the bacon.

What other headlines should I use to help drive traffic to this site? I'll get the ball rolling (ooh, that could be one) with Hot Asian Teens.

I was getting bored with the same old blog layout. Plus I felt confined by such a narrow blog entry column. I'm still looking around for something better. Your comments are encouraged and welcomed.

The Summer of Steve: 2009

The holidays have taken their toll on blogging.

Luckily, the new year is a time of reflection and resolution. So I have come up with a number of new features that will both add blog postings, but, more importantly, add to the blogger's betterment. After all, that's what this blog is really about -- forcing me to do quasi-interesting things and reporting on them.

These new features are:

1. Steve's Dusty Bookshelf -- anyone who has visited the Wallagio will have noticed the dusty bookshelf next to the Jumbotron. And while I have read most of the books on the shelf, there is a regrettably large number of books that have been housed on this shelf for far too long. So, I have selected 12 books that have been the bane of my literary existence for some time. First up will be will be 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl by Daniel Pinchbeck. Since it's about the coming end days, I need to read it sooner rather than later.
2. Eating Lower Greenville -- there are still a lot of places down there (La Casita, Daddy Jack's Chowder House) that I've yet to step into. So, I will be starting at the lowest of lowest Greenville and work my way up. First up is Dallas Tortilla and Tamale Company. Yes, Trent, that is Greenville and not Munger.
3. Wally's Week in Review -- Regrettably, there are things that are not completely blogwworth, but contain blogworthy items. This weekly feature appearing each Sunday should remedy some of my life events that don't make the blog.
4. Hulu Voodoo Review -- There's a lot of great stuff on Hulu. One item in particular is Babylon 5. Since many of you gentle readers enjoy Lost and/or Battlestar Galactica, well this is the show that started the concept of serialized SciFi. Hey, when Hulu gets The Wire, I'll go over each episode. But until that happens you're stuck with Babylon 5.
5. More of the Same -- I pledge to increase the number of movie, DVD, restaurant, book and recipe reviews beyond the above items. My goal is to have at least one of each each month. I'm also planning more day-trips and other events that force me to use my new camera. Hopefully work will send me to more exotic places as well.
   

So there you have it, good clean reader. My Five Step Plan to make 2009 the best year yet for the Summer of Steve.
