Live Blogging The Super Bowl

No, not the one in Arlington, the one in Miami 32 years ago.  One of the greatest Super Bowls of all time.  The NFL Network has been replaying the Super Bowls of the Steelers and the Packers all week.  With copious amounts of free time during the recent Icepocalypse, I managed to Tivo and rewatch this great game so that I may share my snarky commentary with my reader.
If you’re reading this on Facebook and it looks like a jumbled mess, go here to see it properly formatted.
Please to enjoy.
First Quarter
15:00 Pittsburgh’s kicker has a single bar facemask.  What is this the 70’s??
14:55 I can’t explain how awesome it is to see all the pre-snap movements and the line hitch.  This all brings me back to a better time
14:55 Handoff to Dorsett to the left for 9 – That dude’s pretty fast.
14:20 Handoff to Dorsett up the middle for 13 --  That dude’s pretty fast.
13:45 Handoff to Newhouse up the middle for no gain.  Dammit Jason Garret stop trying to be so cute.
13:30 Pitch to Dorset to the right for 20+.  Just run it and run it and run it……..
13:30 I should mention that times and distances are approximate.  Apparently this kind of information was not that important in 1979.
13:00 Fumble recover by Banaszak for Pittsburgh on a WR flea flicker (?).  Tom Landry should have been fired that very moment.  He was having great success running the ball and then he has to channel yet unborn Jason Garret.
12:50 Pitch to Bleier for a loss of one.  Sorry Rocky, not against Doomsday.
12:00 Bradshaw to Stallworth for 18 yards on 3rd and 9.  What??
11:00 How is it every football player back then looked like they were 36?  I couldn’t believe it when it said “Randy White 4th year out of Maryland”  He’s always looked like someone’s dad to me.  And don’t get me started on Rocky Bleier.
10:45 Brandshaw to Grossman for 9 on 3rd and 8.  The Dallas D is not making the plays on theses third and longs early on.  Great throw threading the needle by Bradshaw, though.
10:00 TD PITTSBURGH – Bradshaw to Stallworth 28 yard pass.
Pitt 7  Dal 0
9:00 Gowdy & Olsen are finally giving the starting defensive lineups for Pittsburgh.  Toews, Lambert and Ham – all white guys – are the starting linebackers.  Is this the last time three white guys started as LBs on a Super Bowl winning team?  Just wondering.
8:15 Staubach to Johnson for 23 on 3rd and 4.  Great catch by Johnson and throw to the hot receiver on the blitz by Captain America.
7:00 Staubach sack by Barnask for a huge loss.  Oddly, Merlin Olsen comments that the Steelers don’t usually blitz you that much.  That sounds weird to me.  BTW, I still have no idea how much time has gone by in the game.
6:30 Coverage sack by “Mad Dog” White.  4th and a mile.  Danny White to punt.
3:45 Bradshaw to Harris for a gain of 20 on 3rd and 4.  Come on guys.   Guys!?!?
2:46 INT by Lewis.  Dallas Ball
2:00 Back to back running plays to Newhouse.  Really??  Tommy, have you seen Dorsett run today??
1:40 Another third down incompletion by Starbuck.
1:00 Our first penalty of the game.  Holding on the Steelers.  Somewhere an infant Flozel Adams crapped his diaper in respect.
0:45 They’re finally showing the Dallas defensive lineup.  Two of three LBs are white and two of four DBs.  So, in this game we have 5 of 6 white LBs and 3 of 8 DBs.
1:00 Fumble by Bradshaw recovered by Jones.  Kurt Gowdy finally told me there was one minute left.
0:30 Drew Pearson is interfered with in the end zone on a great throw by Roger the Dodger.  No call.
0:00 TD Cowboys.  Staubach to Hill.
Pitt 7  Dal 7
Second Quarter
14:00 Gowdy just read the disclaimer about “… any rebroadcast or retransmission of this telecast without the expressed written permission of the NFL is prohibitied”.  Just exactly how much of that was going on in 1979 that we all have to stop down for this disclaimer?
13:00 Bradshaw pass incomplete.  Almost intercepted by Charlie Waters.
12:25 TD Cowboys. Fumble by Bradshaw forced by Henderson, recovered and taken to the endzone by Hegeman.  How the fuck did they lose this game???
Dal 14  Pitt 7
12:00 Was Kurt Gowdy ever good?  He just call them “The Dirty Towels” and had to be corrected by Merlin Olsen, “Don’t you mean the Terrible Towels?”
11:45 Handoff to Franco for 1 yard.  Tackled by The Beautiful Harvey Martin.  It’s the first time I remember him doing anything in this game and he was by favorite player back then.  So it had to be chronicled.
10:00 TD Pittsburgh  Bradshaw to Stallworth for 75 yards.  Hughes missed the tackle and Stallworth took it to the house.
Dal 14  Pitt 14
8:45 On 3rd and 18 Stauback fumbled forced by Greene recovered by Raferty for a loss of a million.  Not a good series for Dallas.  Three plays all for a loss.
8:20 Bradshaw to Swan for 20+.  Impotent offense followed by a sieve like defense is not good.
6:00 Merlin Olsen about Pittsburgh’s receiving corps – “When you have three great receivers doesn’t that make them all better?”  I wonder how TO Owens would answer that question.
5:30 Handoff to Bleier for no gain.  Too much Bleier and Newhouse.
5:10 Bradshaw sacked by Henderson on third and long.
5:00 Field Goal missed by some dude with a bad facemask.
4:20 Handoff to Newhouse for a loss of one.   What did I just say???
4:00 Staubach to Preston Pearson on a 9 yard pass for a first down.  Nice layout by Preston.
3:30 At this point in the game Roger has thrown only 7 passes.  Shocking.
2:45 Staubach to Dorsett on a 20 yard screen on a blitz.
2:20 INT by Blount.  Pittsburgh ball.   That ball looked like it was intended for Blount.  After the pass was released Roger took a hit that would no doubt be a roughing the passer penalty today.
1:33 WR Screen to Swan for 25ish.  Cowboys need to do a little better job tackling these receivers.
0:30 TD Pittsburgh.  Bradshaw to Bleier on a 12 yard pass.  I’m not sure I would have covered Rocky either.
Pitt 21  Dal 14
Pittsburgh 21  Dallas 14
Half Time is brought to you by:

Third Quarter
13:45 First series of the second half, Steelers are three and out and have to punt for the first time of the game.
13:30 JFC.  Another handoff to Newhouse.
12:34 After a defensive holding call on Pittsburgh we are treated once again to a Newhouse handoff.
11:55 Roger scrambles for a 9 yard gain on 2nd and 10.  A nice jook got him the last few yards.
10:45 He does it again when both of his screen receivers are covered.
10:15` 3rd and 2.   STUFFED.  The Cowboys haven’t had much running room since the first series.
9:30 Handoff to Franco for a loss of 3.  To be fair, there hasn’t been much running room for the Steelers either.
8:30 Cowboys ball after a Pittsburgh punt.
8:20 Flea Flicker pass in the endzone to Hill – Incomplete.  Come on Tommy.  Let’s stop trying to be cute.  Only do that stuff if it’s going to work, ok?
7:20 Staubach to Preston Pearson on third down for a first down.
6:45 Handoff to Dorsett to the right for 4 tough yards and the first down.  At this point in the game, Dorsett has 11 carries for 56 yards.  It’s been rough sledding hear recently.  But that’s still a good average.  Let’s get him the ball.
5:00 Staubach to a wide open Jackie Smith in the end zone.  Dropped.  Oh dear.  One of the most famous plays from this game.  And after all these years, it’s still a kick in the nutz.
4:50 FG Cowboys  from 27 yards out.
Pittsburgh 21  Dallas 17
2:30 Bradshaw scrambles for like half an hour until he finds Bell for the first down.  And then gets hit in what would today be a roughing penalty.
0:45 Danny White is warming up.  At least it’s not Clay Rapada.
0:40 Bradshaw sacked by The Manster forcing a punt into the wind.
0:30 Yikes.  Butch Johnson returning the punt is holding the ball out there like a loaf of bread.
Pittsburgh 21  Dallas 17
Fourth Quarter
14:45 Pass to Drew Pearson – incomplete.  Drew has yet to make a reception.
14:30 A little drop pass to Dorsett for 15.
13:45 Handoff to Laidlaw for 4.  He’s been running well since replacing Newhouse.
10:30 Pass deflected by Greene to force a Danny White punt.
9:30 Bradshaw to Grossman on 3rd and 8 for a 9 yard pass.  The Cowboy D has been effective every down except third.
8:30 Pass Interference on Bennie Barnes.  Bennie, you have to look back to sell it.  Ball on the Dallas 25
7:45 Hendersen sacks Bradshaw after the whistle for delay of game, but no penalty on him.  These were different times.
7:30 TD Pittsburgh on a 23 yard Harris run.
Pitt 28  Dal 17
7:25 Fumble by Randy White on the squib kick.  Recovered by Pittsburgh’s Winston.
7:10 TD Pittsburgh on a 20 yard pass from Bradshaw to a leaping (of course) Swan.
Pitt 35  Dal 17
7:00 Pittsburgh scored two touchdowns in 17 seconds.  I’m guess that’s a Super Bowl record.  Is it still?
6:14 Staubach sacked by Banaszak.  3rd and 11
5:00 Roger has no one to throw to and scrambles for the first down.
3:30 Draw to Dorsett for 20+.  Why has he not been used more??
3:00 15 yard pass from Staubach to Dupree.  Roger just lobbed it up so as not to get sacked and Dupree came down with it.  Great catch.
2:27 TD Dallas.  Staubach to Dupree. from 8 yards out
Pitt 35  Dal 24
2:23 On sides kick recovered by Dallas’ Thurman.
2:16 Pass to Drew Pearson for 20
1:06 Staubach pass out the back of the end zone.  NFL Network skipped ahead on me.
0:52 Fourth and 19 – 30 yard pass to Drew Pearson who was carried above the ground back another 5 yards. No penalty.  That’s just how the game was played.
0:32 Ten yard dump off pass to Dorsett who scrambled for every one of those yards.  Down to the Pittsburgh three.
0:22 TD Dallas.  Three yard pass to Johnson.
Pitt 35  Dal 31
0:20 On sides kick recover by Pittsburgh’s Bleier.  Oh well.  I thought the Cowboys were going to pull it out this time.
The Final
Pittsburgh 35  Dallas 31

Dead Blogging the NFL Playoffs: Eagles @ Cowboys (Part Trois)

image I can’t really call it live blogging since it’s the next day and I’ve already watched the game.  The Sports Book at the Wallagio was closed for remodeling and I had to watch the game with friends at the Carlson Mansion.

Pregame:  Nothing.  I’ve fast forwarded to the beginning of the game.

Q1 15:00 – Fuck this there’s a Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations marathon on The Travel Channel.

Q1 14:54 – Your first false start of the playoffs brought to you by Kyle Kosier.  Oh, and I hope everyone has their ticket to the Gun Show cause it’s an Ed Hercules officiated game.

Q1 14:10 – Whoa!  Roy Williams makes a catch.

Q1 12:52 – MB3 gets stuffed again.  He appears to have nothing this game.  I can say this this early because I’ve seen the whole game and know he had nothing.

Q1 12:15 – Whoa! Roy Williams makes a second catch and then runs for a first down.

Q1 10:55 – I hate the Wildcat/Razorback.  Even though, this time, it lead to a first down.

Q1 10:05 – Felix Jones has his playoff slippers on.  His first great run (off a screen) of the game and a great job tippy toeing to stay in bounds for more yards.

Q1 8:22 – In retrospect, these Witten penalties could have cost the Cowboys this game.  [oops, spoiler alert] This one cost the Cowboys a nice pass to Ogletree down to the Two.

Q1 8:02 – Sack.  3rd and 32.  Yikes

Q1 7:45 – Incomplete.  Now they have to punt.  They went  from being on the Two yard line to having to punt.  Not a good start.

Q1 6:34 – Philly offense picks up where they left off last week with another three-and-out.  How exactly is Andy Reid a genius??

Q1 6:10 – Felix Jones – BOOM.  His first big true run of the game.

Q1 5:41 – Sack.  It look like both Bennet and Witten misread the blitz and released early and then Colombo missed his man completely giving Romo no time to do anything but duck.

Q1 5:01 – MB3 with nothing.  I didn’t really notice this on first viewing.  But he really didn’t have anything and it makes sense now why we didn’t see anything  of him in the second half.  Oh, I mean, will see nothing of him in the second half.

Q1 3:42 – Nice punt coverage to down it at the 3 to give the Eagles another possession starting deep in their own territory.

Q1 3:02 – I hate this defenseless receiver penalty.  Celek was falling forward awkwardly.  Hamlin was not intentionally trying to hit him in the head.  It was a good call, just a bad rule.

Q1 2:12 – Intentional Grounding.  McNabb had nothing to throw to.  Great coverage by Dallas.

Q1 1:25 – Oooooh.  Creighton was a shoelace away from beating the punter and taking it to the house.

End Of 1st Quarter [Dallas 0 Philadelphia 0]

Q2 14:50 – Miles Austin make his first playoff play with a nice slant to convert the 3rd and 8 into a first down.

Q2 14:15 – Pass Interference.  Cowboys at the 1 yard line.  Interesting that the back judge looking right at the play didn’t throw the flag

Q2 14:10 - [Touchdown Phillips]  Great play.  Phillips fought his way open for the touchdown.  Something that the very disappointing Marty B would not do.  [Dal 7 Philly 0]

Q2 14:05 – More Ogletree please.  He blew up Macho to give Philly another long field to start a possession.

Q2 13:10 - [Touchdown Maclin]  Philly finally scores in the Death Star.  Vick on the wildcat and buys time on the run fake and when Jenkins fell down Maclin is wide open for the 70+ yard catch and run touchdown.  Well I guess it finally paid off for Philly to sign the human garbarge that is Michael Vick.  He threw the only meaningful touchdown pass in a playoff game the Eagles will ultimately lose.  Yeah, that seemed to work.  Charma is a bitch, Philly.  [Dal 7 Philly 7]

Q2 13:10 – This is probably the key play of the entire playoff run.  If the Cowboys ultimately go on to the Superbowl, it will be Wade’s throwing of the red flag that overturned this interception that changed everything.   The Eagles quickly scored to tie the game up and on the next play intercept Romo.  But that gets overturned and the Cowboys go on to [spoiler] score 20 more points in the quarter and the game is over.

Q2  13:02 – Another nice run by Jones and then a facemask penalty on top.

Q2 11:47 – Creighton on the slant to pick up an important 3rd and long.  He picks up where he left off last week as well.

Q2 10:13 – Whoa!  Roy Williams makes a catch.  Where the fuck was this the first 16 games of the season?  Williams didn’t give up on the play and actually came back for the ball.  Totally unlike anything he’s done all year.  Good for him.

Q2: 9:30 – Witten down to the one.  Seriously, this guy is a Jedi.  He must whisper to the Eagle safeties “I am not the tightend you’re looking for.”

Q2 9:27 - [Touchdown Choice]  No MB3 on a short yardage situation.  Interesting.  [Dal 14  Philly 7]

Q2 9:07 – Sensabaugh with dubious pass interference.  He just got there a bit early.  Is that so wrong??

Q2 8:26 – My man Jenkins breaks up the pass for the incompletion.  This is notable because McNabb does a great job scrambling to extend the play.  Usually by this time a DB will have lost his man – but not Jenkins.

Q2 8:16 – Sensabaugh makes up for his pass interference by tackling his man short of the first down.  With the Dallas blitz, Sensabaugh had no help being one-on-one with his man.  He had to make that play, or else!!!

Q2 7:27 – Huge mistake by Austin on an otherwise great play.  He had blocking to his right from Williams, but inexplicably he goes left and gets tackled.  It could have been an easy 6.

Q2 5:51 – Whoa!  Roy Williams makes a catch.  And this too was a great catch.  It was quite a bit over his head, but he still came down with it.  Since his rib injury, Williams has been reluctant to catch anything over his head.

Q2 4:24 – Whoa!  Roy Williams makes a catch.  Unfortunately he slips on his own shoelace and avoids an easy touchdown.

Q2 3:44 – It’s interesting that they went to Williams all three times once they got 1st and goal.  He was overthrown, then he slipped, then overthrown but covered.  I’m not blaming him here.  He’s had a great game.  But he should have scored on the first two throws.  But it just didn’t happen.

Q2 3:40 – FG Suisham [Dal 17  Philly 7]

Q2 3:36 – In the original watching of this game the pizza guy arrived.  So, we paused it in the middle of the play and it look for all the word that DeMarcus Ware was about to assfuck Donavon McNabb.  To his credit, once we unpaused, McNabb stepped up and avoided the assrape he so richly deserves.

Q2 3:23 – [Fumble Recovery Carpenter]  Oh my, there’s so much to say about this play.  Firstly, let me reiterate that charma is a bitch. Vick in the Wildcat.  The first time they tried it, charma must have been sleeping because Vick threw for a long touchdown.  This time, charma was wide awake causing the human pile of pigshit, Vick, to fumble.  And on top of that Barbie Carpenter makes the biggest play of his career by wrestling the ball away from said pile of pigshit.  Good Times.  Andy Reid is a fucking genius, the fat fuck.

Q2 3:13 – More Felix Jones greatness.  1st and goal!!

Q2 1:55 – Touchdown Austin!  [Dal 24  Philly 7]

Q2 0:51 - [Fumble Recovery James]  Philly had been moving the ball well with their 2-minute offense.  But Brady James forces the fumble after the Weaver reception.  Just enough time for a field goal.

Q2 0:21 – Classic Romo!  Scrambles, avoids a sack a couple of times.  Then throws it out to Choice who gets the pass interference call.  Although, it looked to me Choice was initiating contact.

Q2 0:05 – FG Suisham.  When was the last time Dallas made a second field goal in a game.  It always seemed like Nick Folk would make his first one of the game and make everyone feel good about him.  Then he would grossly miss his second.  Suisham hit this one from  48 yards out.  The route is on!  [Dal 27  Phil 7]

End of First Half  Dallas 27  Philadelphia 7

Halftime is Brought to you by:

Q3 11:08 – It took almost 4 minutes for me to find something to write about in a mostly boring third quarter.  But I have to mention it when my man Jenkins makes a play on noted Twitterer Desean Jackson.  Dude, have you even made a play today??  It’s easy to Twitter, but hard to make a catch when Mike Jenkins is in your jock the whole game.

Q3 8:16 – Spencer finishes his best series of the game with a sack.  Also on this possession, a ball batted down and and a run stop for a loss of yardage.

Q3 6:18 – Creighton picks up another first down on third and long.  If he could play the Eagles every week, he’d be in the Probowl.

Q3 5:33 – Touchdown Jones!!  HOMERUN!! 73 yard run by Felix Jones.  Samuel is still searching for the jock Felix juked him out of.  [Dal 34  Philly 7]

Q3 5:09 [INT Jenkins][Fumble Recovery Brown]  The wackiest play of the game.  Jenkins makes the easy INT on the underthrown McNabb pass.  Desean Jackson makes his best play of the night by stripping Jenkins as he’s inexplicably about to lateral it to Newman.

Q3 4:07  Long pass defended by Sensabaugh.  Seriously, the Eagles can’t make a big play against this powerful and mighty Dallas defense.  All hail the Dallas D!!

Q3 3:42  [Over on Downs]  McNabb is hurried by a Hamlin blitz, incomplete.

Q3 2:47 – Does Romo need to be running the ball up by 27?? There are potentially three more games to play.

Q3 2:04 – The real Roy Williams is back.  A ball through his hands almost results in an interception.

Q3 0:08 – Brian Westbrook finally makes an appearance in tonight’s game with 27 yard catch and run.

End of Third Quarter  Dallas 34  Philadelphia 7

Q4 14:33 – Another failed Wildcat play by the subhuman dog killer.

Q4 14:28 – Sack by Ware.  He wares down left tackles (rock me!) and seems to get his sacks in bunches in the 4th quarter.

Q4 13:30 – Touchdown Jackson.  Jackson makes good on this Twittering with a meaningless 4th quarter touchdown. [Dal 34 Philly 14]

Q4 13:30 – Is there a better advertising agency in the world than the guys that do the Geico commercials?  They are never content to stick with the same bit and try new stuff that’s usually as funny as their old bits.  Kudos!!  The only think close is Jack in the Box.

Q4 13:18 – Well, Dallas isn’t going to play conservatively with a 20 point lead with first down pass to Austin.

Q4 5: 23 – A successful drive that ends in a punt??  When i runs off over 8 minutes, yes.

Q4  5:13 – Sack by James, who’s having another great game.

Q4 4:01 - [Fumble Recovery Carpenter]  Sack and fumble forced by Ware.  Game Over!  Thanks for playing Eagles.  Better luck next time.  Now go back to your craphole city and get your fucking shinebox.

Q4 3:28 – Choice, dude, what are you doing?  Don’t go out of bounds.

Q4 2:15 – Hopefully Choice didn’t reinjure his brain.  If there’s something wrong with MB3, they’re going to need him at Minnesota next week.

Q4 2:15 – The Who seems an odd choice for the Superbowl halftime show.  I’ve got nothing against them, they were a great band, but they haven’t been relevant in 25 years.  Were Herman’s Hermits busy that weekend??

Q4 0:35 - [Over on Downs]  But it almost looked like another interception by Jenkins.  Too bad he was out of bounds.

End of Game – Dallas 34  Philadelphia 14

Live Blogging Cowboys v. Chargers

This is essentially a playoff game – if the Cowboys lose, they will have a hard time making the tournament.  With that amount of importance, this game deserves the insight and snark of this self-indulgent blogger.

Pregame – Ugh.  It’s a CBS game.  I’m going to be spared to death by Phil Sims and that awful music they play in and out of breaks.

Q1 14:51 : It’s nice to see Felix back.

Q1 12:58:  Today’s first false start brought to you by Bergen County native Miles Austen.

Q1 12:12 : Back to back penalties push Dallas back to their own territory.  It’s good to see they have decided to not to change their ways for an important game.

Q1 10:51 : Alert the media. Roy Williams makes an important catch.

Q1 8:45 : Looking at the incompletion to Phillips, I think Roy ran the wrong route and brought his defender into the middle of the endzone breaking up the play.  How’s that for sports analysis?? Pow Pow!

Q1 8:40 : FG Dallas (Dallas 3 – San Diego 0).  Romo holding already pays dividends.  But seriously, if Folk misses that he gets cut instantly.

Q1 8:00 : SD Center Scott Mruczkowski looks like he might be a special needs kid.

Q1 6:10 : Terrance Newman is still looking for his jock.

Q1 5:10 : Sensabaugh, dude, you were in position.  Make the interception.

Q1 4:30 : TD San Diego (San Diego 7 – Dallas 3).  After the first two plays were for a loss on this drive, the Dallas D let’s the Chargers slice through them like a hot knife through a pathetic defense.

Q1 2:58 : Nice three-and-out Cowboys.  What exactly is the point of Roy’s route that was four yards short of the first down?  It’s not like he ever breaks tackles and picks up a bunch of YACs like Miles does.

Q1 1:04 : Great coverage by Jenkins, but a better catch from Jackson.  Yet another big play given up by the Dallas D.

End of First Quarter – San Diego Super Chargers 7  Dallas Cowboys 3

Q2 14:22 : Wade Phillips makes a barking seal hand gesture which I guess means more pie please.

Q2 13:49 : More great coverage by Jenkins.  The ball was well place but slightly out of bounds.

Q2 10:18: FG San Diego (SD 10 – Dallas 3)  Not looking good.  Selling all Dallas Playoff futures.  But if Dallas O can do anything on the next drive…. Who am i kidding???

Q2 9:30 Felix!  That’s a good start.  Two good runs by Jones.

Q2 8:40  Why are we reviewing Romo’s sack from 40 minutes ago?  Oh, to show us CBS’ expensive computer graphic play-pretty.

Q2 6:57  Does Williams ever not look for a flag whenever he doesn’t make a catch, which is often.

Q2 2:30 Thought they needed to go for it.  But MB3 couldn’t get that last yard three times in a row.  Nice drive, though.  It’ll be something nice to look at during week one of the playoffs and the Cowboys are all sitting home.  Why do I feel like I’m about to see a 99 yard touchdown drive?

Q2  1:46 WHOOP.  TNew with INT!  Plenty of time left.

Q2 0:42  Folk FG no good.  Can anyone else hold?  But seriously, can anyone else kick?

Q2 0:25 Jenkins with more great coverage.  Keep throwing to him Phil.  Your efforts will be rewarded in a pick-six.

Q2 0:18 Bowen with the much needed sack. SD is now way out of FG range and timeouts.

Q2 0:13 Jenkins is so good he prevents receptions by his own teammates.

End of First Half – SD 10 Dal 3 – After a shaky start the Dallas D keeps SD to only 10 points.  But the Dallas O continues to the disturbing trending of accumulating yardage but few points.

Random Halftime Thoughts

  • Can someone explain to me the difference between CSI, NCSI and Criminal Minds?
  • Bits of my brain have started to ooz out of my ears from having to listen to the generic, often incorrect analysis of Phil Sims.
  • Slouching Towards Idiocracy – A live event is shown in 3D.  Isn’t reality in 3D?  And you don’t need the stupid glasses; just some nice hipster doofus frames like mine.
  • I’m not the target audience for much of the advertizing.  Crime procedurals and American yellow beer are not exactly staples of my existence.

Q3 11:36  Cowboys have been lining up with Ware on one side then swapping OLBs.  The confusion finally almost resulted in a sack.

Q3 10:40 96 yards to a tie?

Q3 9:41 Nope.  But the first sighting of the Barbie Bird on the punt.

Q3 8:04  Alan Ball saves a touchdown.  Further greatest from the Six Feet Under creator.

Q3 7:49 Barbie Carpenter makes a tackle in front of the 1st down line.

Q3 7:10 99 yards to a tie?  Dallas is not winning this war of field position.

Q3 5:55 Ugh.  A promo for my sports kryptonite – college basketball.

Q3 4:03  First long completion of the day to Austen.

Q3 3:35 Why run wide with MB3?

Q3 2:23 It’s Miles Austen time!

Q3 1:41  Roy Williams is apparently reading this live blog and gets a shit tonne of YACs on this play.

Q3 0:55 MB3 to the 1.  I’ve seen this movie before.

Q3 0:02 Touchdown Miles Austen!!!! Dal 10 SD 10.  Dallas Cowboys now rated a slight buy.

End of Third Quarter Dal 10 SD 10.  It’s a ballgame!!!!

Q4 14:09 : Ugh.  They can’t let rivers have that much time.  Great stuff on LT on the first down play.

Q4 12:05 : Dang.  Sproles is dragging multiple Cowboys for his 3 yard gains.

Q4 11:28 : Ware’s down.  Not good.  Cowboys now rated a weak sell.

Q4 11:28 : Oh shit,  they’re bringing out the cart.  Since I was pre-med in college I'm diagnosing this as cervical cancer.

Q4 10:56 : TD San Diego (SD 17 Dal 10) Way to rally around your fallen teammate Dallas.  You were able to give up 53 yards in only 32 seconds.  Way to nut up.

Q4 10:42 : How does Witten get so open down field?

Q4 10:15 : Jones almost breaks Romo’s ankle with his fumble recovery.

Q4 9:23 : Well that drive sucked.  After the Witten catch, we’re treated to a Jones fumble, an almost interception and a throw to Roy Williams aka the Drive Killer.  But to be fair to Roy, he was single covered.  Did Dallas hang a Mission Accomplished banner after their TD?  Both the D and O looked like they thought the game was over and Superbowl rings would be handed out at the conclusion of the game.

Q4 7:51 I got a giggle from the spell checker that suggested that Superbowl should have been Superb owl.  In what context has that phrase ever been used?  Maybe in describing former Vikings QB Tommy Krammer?

Q4 4:15 Well, that’s just about it. LT with the first down.  Unless Dallas traded Folk to SD at halftime, the Chargers are in FG range with little resistance from the Dallas D.

Q4 2:00 Two minute warning.  I’ve mentally checked out of this game as well by looking at pictures on Facebook.  I get the feeling the defense has done much the same.  All you need to do is have a season saving hold.  But the Chargers nickel and dime you down the field running precious minutes off the clock.

Q4 1:56 FG San Diego (SD 20 Dal 10)

Q4 1:44 What was that?  Williams was walking out of bounds.

Q4 1:36 To Williams credit, that was good work on the slant.

Q4 0:07 Enough time for two scores?

Q4 0:02 TD Dallas (SD 20 Dal 17) Too little too late.  Not enough time to recover an onside kick.

End Of Game (SD 20 Dal 17)

Eagles have to win tonight.  With a game left against Philly, Dallas can still win the division with a win against them later.
