Vanabout 2019 Days 16-20: Seattle

v19seattle

I love Seattle. It is easily my favorite city in North America. And the funny thing is people always complain about the rainy weather there.  But whenever I’m there, it’s nothing but sunshine. I must bring the great weather and I await the Seattle City Council’s invitation to move there.

No trip to Seattle is complete without requisite trips to Elliot’s, The Brooklyn, and Top Pot. I was extremely relieved to see that Top Pot was still good. The Top Pot in Dallas is shit and are ruining the fine name of Top Pot.

Firsts

  • Bateau – OMG easily the best steak I’ve ever eaten.
  • Seattle Underground – entertaining and interesting history of Seattle, but, I dunno. What was the point of the underground?
  • R Day Celebration – local yellow beer provider Rainier Brewery threw a concert. The second accidental concert of the trip.
  • Visit to Chihuly Garden

Not a whole lot of pictures taken after Leavenworth since I was going to places I’ve been many times before. So here are a handful of phone pix taken.

Recently in My Face: Elliot’s Oyster House

untitled-15

Oysters, meaty creamy Sea Cows on the left, briney funky Blue Pools on the right.

untitled-16

Crab cakes.  I can never get enough.

I almost didn’t make it there, but I’m so glad I did.  The Brooklyn is great, but for just oysters, and variety of oysters, this is the place.

Walkabout 2015 Day 4: Baseball and One Last Walk Downtown

untitled-7

I make this deal to you, the citizens of Seattle.  Any time you have both Neko Case and the Texas Rangers in town, I will dutifully visit and eat your seafood, including dim sum.

Walkabout 2015 Day 3: Bumbershoot

Most of the day was spent wandering around Seattle Center watching various acts I have never heard of.  One act that some how struck a chord with me was Moon Hooch.  They are a saxophone duo with a drummer that plays dance music.

Neko!!

More Neko!

Nifty place for a festival.

Recently in my Face: Skillet Diner

Walkabout 2015-64

First you make a decadent grilled cheese made from brie and cheddar on brioche grilled with the perfect amount butter.  Then, because this is how I roll, I knock it up a notch by adding bacon jam.  But that’s not even close to good enough.  I then added a fried chicken thigh.  It was ridiculous.

Walkabout 2015 Day 2: More Seattle

walkabout 2015 day 2

A lot of walking around today.  After lunch at Skillet Diner in Ballard, I was dumped off at the waterfront to fend for myself.*  Eventually I made my way to Pike Brewery in the market where I found the A&M playing.  So I settled down there for a while and high fived myself when the final gun sounded.  Afterwards, to celebrated I headed up to the Pie Bar for pie and cocktails.  Unfortunately it was too dark for pix.  But still, a pretty good little day.

* It was either get dumped off at the waterfront or endure the Alabama/Wisconsin game.

Seattle 2014 Day 2

seattle142
Day two in Seattle centered around going to a Sounders game.  Along with Portland, the PacNW is pretty nuts about the MLS.  I guess it’s good that someone is.
Afterwards it was on to oysters happy hour followed by pie.

Seattle 2014 Day 1

Seattle141

Oh Seattle, how I missed your abundance of seafood and craft beer.  My heart longs so, that I’ll even accept Hotel Seattle as a cheap alternative to downtown hospitality.   It seriously isn’t that bad when you know what you’re getting into.  And don’t forget to check out the $2.50 wells at the bar in the basement.

Vanabout 2019 Day 28: Aberdeen

Still South Dakota. Found a cute campground that most of the year is a hopping family holiday retreat. But it’s cold and snowy and latish Oc...
